Target Information

The protein encoded by this gene is one of the highly conserved mini-chromosome maintenance proteins (MCM) essential for the initiation of eukaryotic genome replication.
The hexameric MCM complex is a key component of the pre-replication complex (pre_RC) and may be involved in replication fork formation and recruitment of DNA replication-related proteins.
The MCM complex, including MCM2, 4, 6, and 7, possesses DNA helicase activity and functions as a DNA unwinding enzyme.
Phosphorylation by CDC2 kinase reduces its helicase activity and chromatin binding.
This gene is located on chromosome 8 adjacent to PRKDC/DNA-PK, a kinase involved in DNA double-strand break repair.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been reported.
