ZEB1 (Zinc finger E-box-binding homeobox 1)은 전사 억제 인자로 작용하며, IL-2 유전자 발현을 억제합니다. 세포 유형 및 cDNA 양에 따라 ATP1A1 프로모터의 활성을 조절하며, E-cadherin 억제 및 SMARCA4/BRG1을 통한 상피-간엽 전이(EMT)를 유도합니다. 또한 CTBP1과 함께 BCL6 전사를 억제하고, 신경 분화 과정에서 RCOR1 전사 활성화를 억제합니다. ZEB1 유전자 변이는 각막이상증(후부 다형성 및 Fuchs 내피이상증)을 유발할 수 있습니다.
