Target Information

DNA replication, recombination, and repair—processes essential for genomic stability—require exonucleases. In DNA replication, exonucleases process Okazaki fragments, while in DNA repair, they excise damaged DNA and correct recombinational mismatches. These functions involve DNA polymerase families (α, β, δ, and ε). DNA polymerase δ and ε are multisubunit enzymes that interact with the sliding clamp protein PCNA. DNA polymerase δ subunit 3 (POLD3, also known as p66) is a 466-amino-acid nuclear protein essential for proper DNA polymerase δ function.
