Recombinant Murine PDGF-AA is a 28.7 kDa disulfide-linked homodimer composed of two A chains (total 250 amino acids).

Target Information
Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) was identified as a major mitogenic factor present in serum but absent from plasma. It is secreted from the alpha-granules of activated platelets during blood coagulation. PDGF exists as three dimeric isoforms—PDGF-AA, PDGF-AB, and PDGF-BB—each formed by combinations of structurally related A and B peptide chains.
These isoforms interact with two receptor types (alpha and beta) with differing binding affinities. PDGF isoforms act as potent mitogens for connective tissue cells, including dermal fibroblasts, glial cells, arterial smooth muscle cells, and some epithelial and endothelial cells.
Beyond mitogenic activity, PDGF is chemotactic for fibroblasts, smooth muscle cells, neutrophils, and mononuclear cells. Other reported functions include:
- Stimulation of granule release by neutrophils and monocytes
- Facilitation of steroid synthesis by Leydig cells
- Enhancement of neutrophil phagocytosis
- Inhibition of NK cell activity
- Stimulation of collagen synthesis and collagenase secretion
- Modulation of thrombospondin expression
- Induction of vascular contraction in vitro
- Temporary induction of T-cell IL-2 secretion with concurrent down-regulation of IL-4 and IFN-γ
PDGF is also widely expressed in neurons throughout the CNS, where it supports neuronal survival, regeneration, and glial cell proliferation and differentiation.
