Target Information
Osteopontin is an arginine-glycine-aspartic acid (RGD)-containing glycoprotein that interacts with integrins and CD44 as major receptors. It plays multifunctional roles in bone mineralization, cell adhesion, migration, chronic inflammatory disease, and cellular transformation. Proteolytic cleavage by thrombin and matrix metalloproteinases near the integrin-binding RGD sequence modulates its binding and function. Thrombin-cleaved fragments are overexpressed in malignant glial tumors, providing survival advantages and acting as substrates for plasmin and cathepsin D.
