Target Information

CD63 (LAMP-3, lysosome-associated membrane protein-3) is a glycoprotein belonging to the tetraspanin family. It is found in late endosomes, lysosomes, and secretory vesicles of various cell types. CD63 is also present on the plasma membrane following cell activation and is widely used as a basophil activation marker. In mast cells, CD63 exposure occurs without activation. It interacts with integrins, influences phagocytosis and cell migration, and participates in H/K-ATPase trafficking and regulation of ROMK1 channels. CD63 also functions as a T-cell costimulatory molecule and serves as a prognostic marker in early-stage carcinomas. It is expressed on activated platelets, monocytes, macrophages, and weakly on granulocytes, B, and T cells. CD63 is identical to the melanoma-associated antigen ME491 and platelet antigen PTLGP40. Dysfunction of CD63 is associated with melanoma and Hermansky-Pudlak Syndrome.
