Target Information
The LEF1 gene encodes a transcription factor belonging to the high mobility group protein family. This protein binds to a functional site in the T-cell receptor-alpha enhancer, contributing to maximal enhancer activity. It plays a role in the Wnt signaling pathway and may be involved in hair cell differentiation and follicle morphogenesis. Mutations have been associated with sebaceous tumors and other cancers, including androgen-independent prostate cancer. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
