Target Information
LHCGR encodes the receptor for both luteinizing hormone and choriogonadotropin.
It belongs to the family 1 of G-protein coupled receptors (FSH/LSH/TSH superfamily).
Its primary function is acting as a luteinizing hormone/choriogonadotropin receptor (gonadotropin receptor), regulating the development and function of Leydig cells in males.
It also plays a role in the development of male secondary sexual characteristics.
Mutations in this receptor can cause disorders such as familial male precocious puberty and male pseudohermaphroditism.
