Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily. These proteins transport various molecules across cellular membranes and are divided into seven subfamilies (ABC1, MDR/TAP, MRP, ALD, OABP, GCN20, White).
This full transporter is part of the MRP subfamily involved in multidrug resistance. It functions as a multispecific organic anion transporter, handling substrates such as oxidized glutathione, cysteinyl leukotrienes, and activated aflatoxin B1. It also transports glucuronides and sulfate conjugates of steroid hormones and bile salts.
Alternative splicing by exon deletion results in several splice variants, maintaining the original open reading frame in all forms.
