Target Information
The 3’,5’-cyclic nucleotides cAMP and cGMP act as second messengers in numerous signal transduction pathways. Phosphodiesterases (PDEs) catalyze the hydrolysis of cAMP and cGMP to their corresponding 5’-monophosphates, thereby downregulating cyclic nucleotide signaling. The PDE11A gene encodes a member of this enzyme superfamily. Mutations in PDE11A are associated with Cushing disease and adrenocortical hyperplasia. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
