Target Information
The 3′,5′-cyclic nucleotides cAMP and cGMP act as second messengers in numerous signal transduction pathways. 3′,5′-cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterases (PDEs) catalyze the hydrolysis of cAMP and cGMP into their 5′-monophosphate forms, thus downregulating signaling activity. The PDE11A gene encodes a member of the PDE superfamily. Mutations in this gene are associated with Cushing disease and adrenocortical hyperplasia. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
