Target Information
Inward rectifier potassium channels allow potassium ions to flow more easily into the cell than out. Their voltage dependence is regulated by extracellular potassium concentration; as external potassium increases, the voltage range for channel opening shifts to more positive voltages. The inward rectification is mainly due to blockage of outward current by internal magnesium.
KCNJ13 exhibits very low single-channel conductance, low sensitivity to external barium and cesium blockage, and no dependence on internal magnesium for inward rectification.
