It uses a bipartite structural motif to bind DNA, forming dimers through leucine zipper regions.
C/EBP alpha functions mainly in terminally differentiated, growth-arrested cells.
Other family members (C/EBP beta, gamma, delta, epsilon) share similar DNA-binding specificities and can form heterodimers with each other.
