Target Information
Thymidine phosphorylase (TP), also known as platelet-derived endothelial cell growth factor (PD-ECGF) or gliostatin, catalyzes the reversible phosphorolytic cleavage of thymidine and deoxyuridine to their corresponding bases and 2-deoxyribose-1-phosphate.
It exhibits chemotactic and mitogenic activity for endothelial cells and functions as a non-heparin-binding angiogenic factor present in platelets.
Additionally, it plays a role in the activation of fluoropyrimidines, cytotoxic agents used in cancer therapy, converting them into active metabolites.
