Target Information
Bone Morphogenic Proteins (BMPs) are members of the TGF-beta superfamily that regulate bone and cartilage formation. Mature BMPs (30–38 kDa) exhibit a TGF-beta-like cysteine knot structure. BMP2 activation stimulates bone matrix protein production and affects stromal cell and osteoclast proliferation. BMPs also play crucial roles in organ development, influencing cell proliferation, apoptosis, differentiation, and morphogenesis. They contribute to dorsal/ventral patterning and signal through type II and type I receptors to activate the Smad pathway.
