Target Information

The protein encoded by this gene is localized in the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus, and is also secreted. Reducing expression increases susceptibility to ER stress-induced cell death and promotes cell proliferation. Initially thought to have an arginine-rich N-terminus, later evidence indicates a smaller open reading frame without this region. Although polymorphisms in the arginine-rich region were once associated with tumors, they were later found in normal tissues and are not tumor-related.
