Target Information
Profilin is a small (12–15 kDa) phosphoinositides and poly-L-proline binding protein involved in signal transduction and actin filament dynamics. Two mammalian profilins share similar biochemical properties but differ in expression patterns. Profilin I is highly expressed in most tissues except skeletal muscle, while Profilin II is mainly expressed in the brain and at lower levels in skeletal muscle, uterus, and kidney. Profilin is primarily cytosolic, enriched in dynamic membrane regions such as leading edges and ruffling membranes.
