Background
This gene encodes a component of SCF complexes, which include this protein, cullin 1, a ring-box protein, and an F-box family member. The protein binds directly to the F-box motif and participates in regulated ubiquitination of target proteins, marking them for proteasomal degradation. SCF complexes play key roles in cell cycle regulation and development. Additionally, this protein has been characterized as an RNA polymerase II elongation factor. Alternative splicing yields two transcript variants, and a related pseudogene is located on chromosome 7.
