Cytoplasm, Endosome, Cell junction, Membrane; Peripheral membrane protein.
In the retina, localizes in the terminals of rod bipolar cells (By similarity).
Associates with endosomes (PubMed:9566925).
Presence of KRIT1, CDH5, and RAP1B is required for localization to the cell junction (PubMed:7597083).
Colocalizes with VAMP2 and WDFY2 in intracellular vesicles (PubMed:17313651).
Transiently translocates to the membrane of CA1 hippocampal cells in response to long-term potentiation (By similarity).

배경 (Background)
Protein kinase C (PKC) zeta는 serine/threonine kinase 계열인 PKC 패밀리의 구성원으로, 세포의 증식, 분화, 분비 등 다양한 과정에 관여합니다.
PKC zeta는 칼슘 및 diacylglycerol에 의존하지 않으며 phosphatidylserine에는 의존적인 kinase 활성을 보입니다.
일반적인 PKC 억제제에 저항성을 가지며 phorbol ester로 활성화되지 않습니다.
클래식 PKC isoenzyme과 달리 단일 zinc finger module을 가지며, 구조적·생화학적으로 독립적인 특성을 보입니다.
대체 스플라이싱에 의해 다양한 isoform을 생성합니다. (RefSeq, Jul 2008)
