Target Information
Protein kinase C (PKC) is a family of serine- and threonine-specific protein kinases activated by calcium and diacylglycerol. PKC family members phosphorylate diverse protein targets and participate in various cellular signaling pathways. They act as receptors for phorbol esters, known tumor promoters.
Each PKC family member exhibits specific expression and distinct cellular roles. PKC beta is implicated in B cell activation, apoptosis induction, endothelial cell proliferation, and intestinal sugar absorption. Mouse studies suggest roles in neuronal regulation and stress-related behavior.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported.
