Target Information

The superfamily of high molecular weight serine proteinase inhibitors includes SERPINB8 (Protease Inhibitor-8, PI8), a member of the ov-serpin subfamily. Compared to the archetypal serpin PI1 (MIM 107400), this subfamily shows high homology to chicken ovalbumin, lacks N- and C-terminal extensions, has no signal peptide, and contains a serine residue instead of asparagine at the penultimate position. A critical portion of the molecule, the reactive center loop, connects beta sheets A and C.
