Product Specific Information
- In direct ELISAs, approximately 5% cross-reactivity with recombinant mouse IL-31 RA is observed.
- Reconstitute at 0.2 mg/mL in sterile PBS.
Target Information
IL-31 is a T cell cytokine preferentially produced by T helper type 2 cells. It signals through a heterodimeric receptor composed of IL-31 receptor (IL-31R) and oncostatin M receptor (OSM). This receptor complex activates JAK1, JAK2, Stat1, Stat3, Stat5, and PI3K/AKT pathways, while SHP-2 and Shc adapter molecules contribute to MAP kinase activation.
Overexpression of IL-31 in mice causes pruritus and dermatitis resembling human atopic dermatitis (AD). In AD patients, IL-31R expression is elevated on epidermal keratinocytes, and infiltrating cells express IL-31 mRNA. IL-31 is implicated in itch sensation and scratching behavior, suggesting potential as a target for antipruritic drug development.
