Product Specific Information
- Tested in direct ELISA (Use antibody at 2–4 µg/mL for coating).
- For immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 min.
Target Information
Neuron specific enolase (NSE, ENO1, ENO2, ENO3) is an enzyme involved in glycolysis and gluconeogenesis, catalyzing the conversion of 2-phosphoglycerate to phosphoenolpyruvate.
NSE is highly stable in biological fluids and diffuses into extracellular medium and cerebrospinal fluid upon neuronal injury.
The gamma-subunit (ENO2) is primarily expressed in neurons and neuroendocrine cells.
Co-expression of NSE and chromogranin A is common in neuroendocrine neoplasms.
NSE antibodies are useful for identifying neuronal cell bodies, developing neuronal lineage, and neuroendocrine cells.
Release of NSE from damaged neurons serves as a biomarker for neuronal injury and is clinically used as a marker in neurological disorders such as stroke, hypoxic brain damage, status epilepticus, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, and herpetic encephalitis.
Elevated NSE levels are also observed in neuroblastoma and small cell lung cancer.
