Target Information
LHCGR encodes the receptor for both luteinizing hormone and choriogonadotropin. It belongs to family 1 of G-protein coupled receptors (FSH/LH/TSH superfamily).
Its primary function is acting as a luteinizing hormone/choriogonadotropin receptor (gonadotropin receptor), regulating the development and function of Leydig cells in males.
It also plays a role in male secondary sexual characteristic development.
Mutations in this receptor may result in disorders such as familial male precocious puberty and male pseudohermaphroditism.
