Target Information
GDF11 is a member of the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) family and the TGF-beta superfamily. These proteins feature a polybasic proteolytic processing site that is cleaved to yield a mature protein containing seven conserved cysteine residues. Members of this family regulate cell growth and differentiation in embryonic and adult tissues. Studies in mice and Xenopus suggest GDF11 involvement in mesodermal formation and neurogenesis during embryonic development.
