Target Information
DNA-dependent protein kinases (DNA-PK) are involved in the repair of double-strand DNA breaks and V(D)J recombination during lymphoid development.
Through EST database searching and 5′-RACE, Seki et al. identified KIP2 from a human fetal brain cDNA library.
KIP2 encodes a 187-amino acid protein (~22 kDa) sharing sequence identity with calcium-binding proteins KIP/CIB (46%), calcineurin B (39%), and calmodulin (30%).
It contains two EF-hand motifs and a helix-loop-helix motif for calcium ion coordination, suggesting calcium-binding capability.
KIP2 is ubiquitously expressed in various human tissues.
