Target Information
The HSP70 family comprises highly conserved proteins induced by various biological stresses, including heat stress, across all examined organisms.
Human HSP70 family members include:
- HSP70: Strongly inducible and constitutively expressed in primate cells
- HSP72: Induced exclusively under stress conditions
- HSC70 (Cognate protein): 72 kDa, constitutively expressed, involved in uncoating clathrin-coated vesicles
- GRP78 (BiP): 78 kDa, localized in the endoplasmic reticulum
- HSP75 (p75): 75 kDa, mitochondrial protein
HSC70 (also known as HSC71, HSC73, HSP73, p72, prp73) is constitutively expressed and slightly heat-inducible. It binds to clathrin light chains for vesicle uncoating and interacts with the cytoskeleton to facilitate rearrangements. Additionally, HSC70 promotes lysosomal degradation of intracellular proteins and modulates aggregation and folding of mitochondrial precursor proteins in vitro.
