Target Information
ZFPM1 is a transcription regulator that plays an essential role in erythroid and megakaryocytic cell differentiation.
It acts as an essential cofactor forming heterodimers with GATA family transcription factors (GATA1, GATA2, GATA3).
These heterodimers can activate or repress transcriptional activity depending on cellular and promoter context.
They activate expression of genes such as NFE2, ITGA2B, alpha- and beta-globin, and repress KLF1.
ZFPM1 may also be involved in gonadal gene regulation and cardiac development, in a non-redundant manner with ZFPM2/FOG2.
