Target Information
HCN1 (Hyperpolarization-activated cation channel 1) is part of the HCN gene family, contributing to spontaneous rhythmic activity in both heart and brain. These pacemaker channels are activated by hyperpolarization and regulated by cyclic nucleotides.
HCN1 and HCN2 are essential for motor learning and neuronal integration by cerebellar Purkinje cells, shaping autonomous neuronal activity and network oscillations.
HCN1 expression is enriched in cerebral cortex, hippocampus, cerebellum, and facial motor nucleus.
HCN2 is abundant in mamillary bodies, pontine nucleus, ventral cochlear nucleus, and nucleus of the trapezoid body.
Regional specificity of HCN channels may contribute to differences in neuronal pacemaker activity across brain systems.
