Target Information
Apolipoproteins are protein components of plasma lipoproteins. The apolipoprotein C gene family encodes four homologous proteins (apoC-I to -IV) that modulate the metabolism of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins.
- The human apoC-I gene (chromosome 19q13.2) is expressed primarily in the liver and activated during monocyte-to-macrophage differentiation.
- The apoC-II gene encodes a 79 amino acid single-chain protein, a cofactor for lipoprotein lipase activation.
- The apoC-III gene (chromosome 11q23) encodes a protein that delays triglyceride-rich particle catabolism by inhibiting lipoprotein and hepatic lipase.
- The apoC-IV gene (chromosome 19q13.2) encodes a 127 amino acid liver-expressed protein.
