Target Information
Mutations in the Schizosaccharomyces pombe Rae1 and Saccharomyces cerevisiae Gle2 genes cause accumulation of poly-containing mRNA in the nucleus, suggesting involvement in RNA export. The human homolog RAE1 contains four WD40 motifs and localizes to distinct foci in the nucleoplasm, nuclear rim, and cytoplasmic meshwork-like structures. It is implicated in nucleocytoplasmic transport and in connecting cytoplasmic mRNPs to the cytoskeleton. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
