Target Information

Tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 4 (TIMP4) is encoded by the gene TIMP4 located on chromosome 3. It belongs to the TIMP family and inhibits matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), which degrade extracellular matrix components.
TIMP4 irreversibly binds to MMPs and inactivates them with zinc as a cofactor. The netrin domain of TIMP4 is involved in platelet recruitment and aggregation. Additional biological functions include response to cytokine and peptide hormone stimuli, ovulation cycle regulation, and CNS development.
