This peptide corresponds to 14 amino acids near the carboxy terminus of avian influenza NS1.
Target Information
Influenza A H1N1 NS (Non-structural protein 1, NS1A, or NS1) is a 234-amino-acid protein belonging to the Influenza A virus (strain A/Swine/Iowa/15/1930 H1N1), which infects aves, humans, and pigs.
NS1 forms a homodimer located in the nucleus of uninfected or transfected cells, and in the cytoplasm of infected cells.
It binds and inhibits cellular proteins CPSF4 and PABPN1, required for 3’-end processing of pre-mRNAs, leading to accumulation of unprocessed pre-mRNAs and suppression of host protein synthesis.
This mechanism allows the virus to evade interferon synthesis and prevents the establishment of an antiviral state.
NS1 also inhibits EIF2AK2/PKR activation early in infection, helping the virus evade host defense.
