Target Information
Cell division cycle associated 2 (CDCA2, also known as Repo-Man) is a cell-cycle protein that recruits protein phosphatase 1 (PP1) to mitotic chromatin at anaphase onset, which is essential for cell proliferation. Phosphorylation of CDCA2 at Ser893 by Aurora B inhibits its function, while dephosphorylation by PP2A allows reformation of the CDCA2/PP1 complex. This complex is required for chromatin binding and histone H3 dephosphorylation at Thr3, Ser10, and Ser28, and plays a role in nuclear envelope reformation during mitotic exit. CDCA2 also participates in DNA repair by promoting DNA damage response upon release from chromatin. Elevated CDCA2 expression has been observed in several cancers, including melanoma, neuroblastoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and synovial sarcoma, suggesting its potential as a prognostic marker.
