Target Information
Ebola virus is an enveloped, negative-stranded RNA virus belonging to the family Filoviridae. It has a distinctive morphology similar to Marburg virus but lacks antigenic similarity. The viral genome is a nonsegmented RNA strand encoding seven structural proteins:
- NP (104 kDa)
- GP (125 kDa, glycosylated surface spike protein)
- L protein (180 kDa)
- VP40 (40 kDa)
- ViPX (35 kDa)
- VP30 (30 kDa)
- VP24 (24 kDa)
All proteins are encoded by monocistronic mRNA transcripts complementary to virion RNA.
