Target Information
Apolipoprotein E (Apo E) plays a key role in lipid metabolism in plasma and is a component of various plasma lipoprotein-lipid particles. It is synthesized in the liver, brain, spleen, and kidney, with high concentrations in interstitial fluids where it helps distribute cholesterol from cells with excess to those requiring cholesterol. Apo E is crucial in the formation of very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) and chylomicrons. The Apo E gene is located on chromosome 19 at position 19q13.2.
