Tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 4 (TIMP4)는 염색체 3에 위치한 TIMP4 유전자에 의해 암호화됩니다. TIMP 계열 유전자의 일원으로, 세포외기질 성분을 분해하는 matrix metalloproteinases (MMP)의 활성을 억제하는 역할을 합니다. TIMP4는 아연을 보조인자로 하여 MMP와 비가역적으로 결합해 비활성화시키며, netrin 도메인은 혈소판의 모집 및 응집에 관여합니다. 또한 사이토카인 및 펩타이드 호르몬 자극에 대한 반응, 배란 주기 및 중추신경계 발달에도 관련되어 있습니다.
