This antibody detects endogenous levels of total GNAI3.
Target Information
Heterotrimeric G proteins relay information from cell surface receptors to intracellular effectors. Each receptor detects specific extracellular stimuli such as photons, pheromones, odorants, hormones, or neurotransmitters, while effectors like adenyl cyclase generate intracellular messengers.
In mammals, G protein alpha, beta, and gamma subunits are encoded by at least 16, 4, and 7 genes, respectively. The alpha subunits bind and hydrolyze GTP and regulate effector activity. Four main classes of Galpha subunits exist: Gs, Gi, Gq, and Galpha12/13.
The Gi class includes all alpha subunits susceptible to pertussis toxin modification (Galpha i-1, i-2, i-3, o, t1, t2, z, gust). Among these, the three Galpha i subtypes function to open atrial potassium channels.
