Target Information

Zinc-finger proteins contain DNA-binding domains and have diverse functions, primarily related to transcriptional activation or repression. Most zinc-finger proteins possess a Kruppel-type DNA binding domain and a KRAB domain, which interacts with KAP1 to recruit histone-modifying proteins.
ZNF408, a member of the Kruppel C2H2-type zinc-finger protein family, is a 720 amino acid nuclear protein containing 10 C2H2-type zinc fingers. The gene encoding ZNF408 maps to human chromosome 11, which includes over 1,400 genes and represents nearly 4% of the human genome.
Defects in genes on chromosome 11 are associated with disorders such as Jervell and Lange-Nielsen syndrome, Jacobsen syndrome, Niemann-Pick disease, hereditary angioedema, and Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome.
