이 효소는 포스파티딜이노시톨 신호전달 경로의 주요 효소로, 이노시톨 모노포스파타제 가수분해 억제가 리튬의 항조증 및 항우울 작용의 기전일 수 있습니다.
연구 결과, IMPA1 유전자의 277번 코돈 영역에서는 조울증 환자에서 변이가 관찰되지 않았으며, 비암호화 영역의 다형성 또는 돌연변이가 리튬 반응성에 영향을 줄 수 있음이 제시되었습니다.
