Target Information
CCL19, also known as MIP-3 beta (Macrophage Inflammatory Protein 3 beta), is a member of the CC-subfamily of chemokines. It is closely related to CCL21, sharing 32% amino acid sequence homology. CCL19 and CCL21 are primarily expressed by stromal cells in T cell-rich zones of lymph nodes, mediating homeostatic trafficking of naive T cells and activated dendritic cells into secondary lymphoid organs. They are also involved in T cell priming, activation, and lymphocyte recruitment to inflamed tissues. Both signal via the G protein-coupled receptor CCR7, which is expressed on T cells and mature dendritic cells. Although both ligands bind CCR7 with similar affinity, only CCL19 binding leads to receptor desensitization and internalization.
