Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 패밀리에 속하며, 중추신경계의 astrocyte 및 특정 astroglia, 말초신경계의 위성세포 및 비수초화 슈반세포에서 강하게 발현됩니다.
GFAP 항체는 astrocytic 세포의 마커로 유용하며, astrocyte 유래 뇌종양에서도 높은 발현을 보입니다. 또한 수정체 상피, 간 Kupffer 세포, 타액선 종양 세포 및 적혈구에서도 보고되었습니다.
GFAP는 발달 과정 중 astrocyte를 다른 glial 세포와 구분하는 데 사용되며, GFAP 유전자 돌연변이는 Alexander disease를 유발합니다. 대체 스플라이싱으로 인해 여러 isoform이 생성됩니다.
