Target Information
Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) is a proinflammatory cytokine expressed by monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. It is synthesized as a 31 kDa inactive pro-form that accumulates in the cytosol and requires inflammasome activation for cleavage into the active 17 kDa form. IL-1β signals through IL-1RI and IL-1RII receptors, shared with IL-1α, and its activity can be moderated by IL-1 Receptor Antagonist (IL-1RA). IL-1β is a key mediator in innate immune responses and has been associated with chronic inflammatory conditions, making IL-1β neutralizing antibodies of potential therapeutic value.
