Target Information
Plasma prekallikrein is a glycoprotein involved in blood coagulation, fibrinolysis, kinin generation, and inflammation. It is synthesized in the liver and secreted into the blood as a single polypeptide chain. Activation by factor XIIa converts it into plasma kallikrein, composed of heavy and light chains linked by a disulfide bond. The heavy chain contains four apple domains essential for pro-coagulant activity, while the light chain harbors the catalytic domain homologous to trypsin-like serine proteases. Deficiency in plasma prekallikrein leads to prolonged activated partial thromboplastin time.
