Target Information
A cluster of genes, BAT1–BAT5, has been localized near the TNF alpha and TNF beta genes. This gene is found close to the C2 gene within a 120-kb region that includes an HSP70 gene pair. These genes lie within the human major histocompatibility complex class III region. Initially thought to be two separate genes (NG36 and G9a), recent studies confirm it as a single gene. The protein encoded by this gene is involved in intracellular protein–protein interactions. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants exist, with two fully described.
