FBXW8 유전자는 F-box 단백질 패밀리에 속하는 단백질을 암호화합니다. F-box 단백질은 약 40개의 아미노산으로 구성된 F-box 모티프를 특징으로 하며, SKP1-cullin-F-box 복합체(SCF)의 일부로서 인산화 의존적 유비퀴틴화에 관여합니다.
F-box 단백질은 다음 세 가지 클래스로 구분됩니다:
- Fbws: WD-40 도메인 포함
- Fbls: 류신 반복 서열 포함
- Fbxs: 다양한 단백질-단백질 상호작용 모듈 또는 인식 가능한 모티프 없음
FBXW8 단백질은 F-box 모티프 외에 WD-40 도메인을 포함하므로 Fbw 클래스에 속합니다.
이 유전자는 서로 다른 아이소폼을 암호화하는 대체 스플라이싱 전사 변이체를 가집니다.
