Target Information
This gene belongs to the H/ACA snoRNPs gene family, which plays a role in rRNA processing and modification. The encoded protein, along with NOLA1, NOLA2, and NOLA3, localizes to nucleoli and coiled bodies in the nucleus. Deficiency of any of these proteins affects 18S rRNA production and pseudouridylation. These proteins are also components of the telomerase complex. Mutations in this gene cause X-linked dyskeratosis congenita and Hoyeraal-Hreidarsson syndrome. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
