Target Information
Phosphoenolpyruvate Carboxykinase 1 (PCK1) is a key regulatory enzyme in gluconeogenesis, acting as a rate-limiting step in the process. It controls metabolic intermediates in the citric acid cycle through cataplerosis and anaplerosis.
When glucose levels are high, PCK1 catalyzes the conversion of oxaloacetate to phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP); when low, it reverses the reaction.
Phosphorylation at Ser-90 by AKT1 enables PCK1 to function as a protein kinase, regulating lipogenesis via SREBP-mediated transcription.
An important paralog of this gene is PCK2.
