Target Information
NEK4 is a serine/threonine kinase involved in signal transduction and cellular communication. It acts primarily on threonine residues and is found in most primary carcinomas. Protein kinases transfer phosphate groups from ATP to substrate proteins, regulating metabolism, transcription, cell cycle, cytoskeletal rearrangement, apoptosis, and differentiation.
With over 500 gene products, the protein kinase family is one of the largest in eukaryotes, classified into 8 major groups based on catalytic domain sequences. The STE group includes 50 kinases related to MAPK cascade families (Ste7/MAP2K, Ste11/MAP3K, Ste20/MAP4K). MAP kinase cascades, such as those in the yeast pheromone response pathway, are key regulators of cellular signaling.
