Target Information
HOX homeobox genes play a role in early stem cell function and later stages of hematopoietic differentiation.
HOXB4 is a homeotic selector gene involved in self-renewal of definitive hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs).
Expression of HOXB4 in primitive progenitors combined with culture on hematopoietic stroma induces a switch to the definitive HSC phenotype.
Activation of WNT signaling in HSCs increases expression of HOXB4.
Perturbations of HOX gene expression can cause leukemia.
